As Dubuque County prepares to elect two members of the Board of Supervisors in 2026, we’ll be introducing voters to the candidates seeking to serve our community. Today, we’re spotlighting Kristin Dietzel.
Rooted in Dubuque County
Kristin Dietzel’s story begins in Dubuque County.
She grew up in Sageville and southern Dubuque County, graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, and later left the area to pursue college, graduate school, and a career in education. But like many people who grew up here, she felt the pull to come home.
Kristin and her husband, Kevin, returned to Dubuque County during the 2009 recession because they believed this community offered the opportunity to build a life, raise a family, and put down roots. Today, they are raising their family here and remain deeply involved in the community.
“I love Dubuque County, and I want it to be a place our kids are proud to call home one day,” Kristin says.
A Career Focused on Opportunity
Throughout her career, Kristin has worked at the intersection of education, workforce development, community building, and small business.
She has worked with Northeast Iowa Community College, Greater Dubuque Development, and Distinctively Dubuque, helping connect students, workers, employers, and newcomers with opportunities throughout the region. She also helps operate her family’s small business, giving her firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities facing local employers.
Those experiences have shaped her belief that strong communities are built when people have access to good jobs, quality education and training, affordable places to live, and opportunities to succeed.

Why She’s Running
Kristin says her decision to run for County Supervisor comes from a desire to bring practical, collaborative leadership to county government.
She believes local government works best when leaders listen to residents, focus on solving problems, and work together to address challenges facing the county.
“People want leaders who listen, do the homework, work together, and keep the focus on serving residents,” she says. “I’m not running to add to the noise. I’m running to get to work.”

Kristin’s Priorities
Bring Good Jobs Home
Kristin believes Dubuque County should continue investing in education, workforce development, and economic opportunities that help residents build successful lives close to home.
She wants to support partnerships between employers, schools, training programs, and community organizations to strengthen the local workforce and help families thrive.
Grow Communities
From parks and trails to childcare, housing, and community amenities, Kristin believes quality of life plays a major role in whether people choose to stay in Dubuque County or move here.
She supports investments that help communities remain vibrant, welcoming places to live, work, and raise a family.
Protect What We Pass Down
Kristin also emphasizes responsible planning and stewardship of the county’s natural resources.
She believes economic growth and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, protecting the land, water, farms, neighborhoods, and natural beauty that future generations will inherit.
Looking Ahead
The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors makes decisions that affect county services, infrastructure, budgeting, public safety, conservation, and long-term planning.
As voters begin learning about the candidates seeking these important positions, Kristin Dietzel says she hopes to bring a perspective shaped by community involvement, workforce experience, small business ownership, and a deep commitment to Dubuque County.
Because for Kristin, the goal is simple: helping make Dubuque County a place people are proud to call home.
